OSCAR National Survey 2019: Parents’ Needs and Experiences of Out of School Care (2020)

In 2019 the Ministry of Social Development commissioned the Out of School Network (OSCN) to explore parents’ views on the need for Out of School Care and Recreation (OSCAR) services. Point undertook the research supported by OSCN. 2,188 parents responded to an online survey, and Point visited five diverse OSCAR sites to see how the providers connected with and supported families and whanau out-of-school-care needs. The research results are helping the MSD decide what more it can do, as part of the wider OSCAR sector, to ensure quality care outcomes for children and help parents stay in and/or enter employment, especially for people vulnerable to poor employment outcomes.
