The Rānui Accord Community-Led Research
Lead Researcher: Annalise Myers
This community-led research project in Rānui gathered insights using an “Amazing Race” community event from 151 participants, highlighting their hopes, strengths, and challenges. The Amazing Race was put together by the Rānui Accord, a community collaboration comprising Rānui Action Project, Rānui Baptist Community Care, Rānui Community Centre, Rānui Community Garden, Rānui Library and Rānui Primary School.
The research found that the Rānui community is supportive, friendly, and caring and values its residents and their needs. People hope for a thriving community focusing on specific needs such as mental health, Māori, and young people. Safety and family-friendly environments are a top priority, with calls for more outside spaces and activities for tamariki and rangatahi. The community also values preparedness for emergency events, taking steps to ensure residents are well-informed and equipped to handle emergencies.
The report recommends initiatives that align with community aspirations, improve safety, foster engagement, and enhance emergency preparedness
